My Pc has recently really slowed down in speed, i.e. it takes longer to load programs and booting the computer takes a long time. I removed pretty much all the unnecessary software, now if i deleat, say update 6 out of 10 java updates, does that help or does it disturb the program. Also any other tips?
My PC doesn’t have any viruses (at least Mc Afee says so) Thanks a lot

Here are the easy and free things you can do to increase your computer’s performance:
1) Clean up the disk. Uninstall unneeded programs (especially those that run at startup and/or put something in the system tray), run Disk Cleanup, and defragment the drive. This is a good first step that will almost always take a few seconds off boot time and application loads for any computer.
2) Stomp auto-starting programs. Click Start Run and type msconfig at the prompt. Click the Startup tab and look at all that junk that loads when you launch your PC. Do you really need Adobe Reader Speed Launch? Probably not. Turn off anything else that looks useless, but be careful not to disable your anti-virus and important system components.
3) Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. I would recommend using AVG Free Anti-virus, Spybot – Search and Destroy spyware remover and Ad-aware spyware remover. These programs are all free.
4) Clean up the registry. CCleaner, available at is free and worth running. It will also remove unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.

Your computer has lots of programs that start when you start your PC.
All are using RAM and CPU even if your not using that program.
Most of these do not need to run at start-up.
Yahoo messenger, Nero, Quicktime, Realplayer, Power DVD, etc
Read the page on my PC help site on using Msconfig.

Simple… dont buy stuff…. take out stuff…. from your RAM that is… most computers are slowed down beoucse lack of RAM (Random Access Memory) go to the lower right side of your computer and take remove unnessary idems (adobe, Nero, Ect.) then go to StartRunMSConfig and edit what starts when you startup your computer.. this will GREATLEY increase the speed of your computer becouse you will have little or no applications running while you are trying to do whatever you are trying to do… give it a try… trust me it helps!!!

press delete when it starts up or f-4 or whatever it says to enter the bios. Then go into the bios menu and find the clock speed settings and turn up the processor / clock speed, this will multiply the speed of the computer and make it run way faster.

Delete as many files as you can that you can live without.
Delete your Cookies.
Delete your browsing history.
And if you have a program that you don’t really need, that takes up a lot of storage space, delete it.
Run your Anti-Virus program, and then restart your computer.

Make sure you don’t have things running on start up. Take off programs you don’t use then defrag it. Make sure you don’t have any spyware on your computer, or ad ware. Keep your os updated. If you have done all these things, and it does not seem to be any faster, may need to upgrade memory, or your harddrive. I have no idea how old your computer is. Find a registry cleaner they have free software. Use it.

Delete stuff you do not need (and make sure it is not needed by other software which you do need), run defragmentation.
There’s another thing you can do which worked for me: reinstall Windows. This is not a joke. I am not sure why this is. Of course, you’d have to reinstall all your programs, too.

A couple of things to remember is that everytime you visit any site on the web you download several things on your computer, from cookies to scripts and sometimes even video content.
There are several things that can help keep all of this unneccessary junk to a minimum.
Go to start lower left then choose all programs, then accessories then system tools, the use of disc cleanup once a week will help a ton.
Next, go on Google and type in Spybot Search and Destroy it is Freeware Shareware and use it once a week.
Same with Lavasofts Adaware-7
The advent of using the 3 mentioned above will help a bunch, in addition when you use your web browser go to the top menu bar and choose tools and then Internet Options. When this box opens you can delete Cookies, Online content and just about anything that has been downloaded by web browsing. Just be carefull not to delete bookmarks if they are important to you. Even though they will free up a ton of space you will losse all of them.
This should help a bunch, remember to keep McAfee up to date buy purchasing the renewel every year.
