What is the best brand of laptop to buy for a college student?

I’m planning on buying a laptop before I start college next year…In your opinion what would be the best brand/type of laptop to buy? I want it to have a decent battery life and to overall be reliable. I plan on using it for papers and research and such…and facebook as well…any input?

    Mac has everything you’ll need but price wise it’s out of many ppl’s budget.

    otherwise stick with HP :) great and affordable, but stay away from windows vista..

    I got Toshiba Satellite to work on my PhD and I had Gateway however the battery lasted less than 2 hours and I changed to Toshiba and it is working well.

    Brand of laptop is nothing to go buy, like HP, they dont make the workings they just make the plastic thing holding it all together, cheapest of all is best although for battery life thats debatable as you can have a big laptop expensive with big battery but it also means it’ll be more powerful and use more power making battery last a little less.
    I got an Acer and i can get 2 hours browsing out of it on low power settings but its slower so if your gonna be studying for hours i guess a less powerful one will last longer or size aint a worry you might manage to buy a bigger bulkier battery for one. Heavy gaming doesnt sound to be an interest so nothing powerful would suite you.
    Try E-machines or Acer they are cheaper brands but as i say they dont make the important stuff they just use it.

    Mac is only good for Graphic design, if your no doing that don’t get a Mac. If your not to good with computers get a Dell. If you need something in the middle get a HP. Brands not to get is Acer or Gateway. Acer is CRAP and Gateway is not very good.

    fujitsu is a japense company thats not very well known but they make incredible laptops at a very affordable price. so much attention to detail goes into their laptops everything from cleanable dust filters to spill proof keyboards. check out maybe it will help you pick out your laptop
