I’m buying a Mac (probably iMac desktop) computer and I’m wondering if I sign up for the personal shopping thing at an Apple retail store, can I actually walk out with my computer that day or do they need to have it ordered and shipped to me? Do they actually have the merchandise on-site? Otherwise I’ll just order it online because they have free shipping. But I’d like to have the computer as soon as possible!

   If you want anything customized (such as adding memory, or changing features) then get it online. If you want the basic, ‘out of the box’ package, you can go to the store and they should have it in stock.

   You can always buy a mac in the Apple Store and walk out with it after paying for it, the same day. They should also have some upgrades for memory or hard drive if you should need it, and usually they install it for you and give it to you the same day.

   They sure do have stock in the back (usually lots of it, depending on how busy your store is). If they don’t have something, they can usually get it for you next day. If the store is far away they won’t mind if you call ahead to check their stock, but you’re almost guaranteed they have it in stock. Enjoy your new iMac, they are great computers!

   Yess you can!! I bought mine like a month ago and the employee just goes to the back and gets it for you! then you just walk out

   They have the base models in-store pretty much all the time. If you want upgrades (like a faster processor, more RAM, or a bigger hard drive) those will have to be ordered – either shipped to you or shipped to the store for pickup.

   But if you simply want an out-of-the-box model you can pick it up same day. That’s how I did mine, then I ordered more RAM from OWC (http://www.macsales) since it was a lot cheaper.

   Most likely yes the apple store has a pretty big warehouse of products in the back of there store i would say unless its a discontinued product like an old mac book pro or something in july of 08 i went to bestbuy to but a mac mini and they said that that model had been discontinued so they checked every other best buy in the area and no bestbuy had one so i went to the apple store and the had 84 in stock

   Yes. They’re pretty much always in stock. You might have to wait a little while while in the store, but you’ll get it the same day! If you want, they’ll even teach you how to use it!
