Marios I asked:

I wanted to see movies, even HD movies, on the tablet pc so that I can put it on my lap while I’m on the couch or on my bed. Is it worth it? What are the advantages and disadvantage of tablet pc? And also, they don’t get warm, do they?

if you’re willing to spend the money then it’s worth it.

Watching movies on your lap will just leave you with back pain, if you remain hunched over. A tablet pc is good for that, but if what you really want to do is watch movies mostly, I suggest you look at the Archos 604 or similar products.

I’ve never personally used one, but I do know that they are considerably more expensive and usually have lower specs than other laptops – not to mention they have a smaller screen (not so great for movies). For your uses, I’d think a tablet is unnecessary. A regular laptop is just as comfortable to set on your lap, I think. If you’re dying for some pen action though, there’s external tablets you can buy for a $100 or so that let you use a pen as a mouse (in a confined area, mind you) which is nice for drawing applications.

Oh, and about the heat, I’d imagine they would give off less heat since their meant to be held a lot, but laptops now (like the Inspiron 1520) give off very little heat on the bottom, instead opting to push it out of side vents.

You want to buy a computer primarily to watch movies? Isn’t that sort of like buying a car to use GPS?

There are some nice portable DVD players out there…

the good- its perfect for your uses and its not hotter than a regular laptop
the bad- you wont get a theater experience without a tv or a media center desktop

If you’re only interested in watching movies, why not get a portable player. It’s a lot less expensive than buying a tablet PC.

Yes any notebook/tablet PC will get warm, the hard drive, CD/DVD drive and of course the CPU all generate heat.

    The basic advantage is you can enter notes directly through a screen that swivels, so I cannot see how it would benefit you at a much higher cost. Anyhow a review;

HP should be commended for bringing something different to the table in terms of a multimedia notebook convertible. You certainly won’t find any cool options like this from Dell. While the Tablet PC functionality of the tx1000 isn’t outstanding, it can be useful and it’s a nice bonus for a notebook that’s strong even if you were to take away the touchscreen feature. Just being able to rotate the screen for presenting and viewing movies has its benefits. The looks of this machine are great and it’s easy to carry around. The processor isn’t the best out there and a magnesium built warrior this notebook is not, but overall the tx1000 is a winner that’s really going to appeal to students and other mainstream users.

    Pros

    Innovative touchpad
Mini remote control for movies, music and photos
    Reasonable cost
Touchscreen (if you select this as an option on your tx1000) doesn’t require stylus
Good selection of ports and multimedia buttons
Good amount of included accessories such as screen wipe and weight saver
    Cons

Screen has some graininess and reflective in office environments
Build is mostly plastic, some flex in parts
    No FireWire port
Can run warm when under demanding use
