Can someone give me some tips on improving the graphics speed for the games on my computer without having to go buy a new graphics card? Just any tips other than buying a new graphics card. Thanks.

Is a Desktop Computer the same as opposed to a Personal Computer? I know a Personal Computer is abbreviated as PC but what about a typical Desktop Computer? Does it mean the same thing at all??

I am considering two options, and am seeking a viewpoint.

I’m a PC user that utilizes my computer for internet use, personal finance, word processing, and excel. I’m not interested in multimedia beyond burning CDs, downloading MP3s, and watching video clips such as the ones you see on CNN, and ESPN (I do not in other words watch movies on the internet, or for that matter keep photo albums, etc).

My last computer lasted me about 5 or 6 years. It probably should have been replaced a couple years ago, but was ok in the meantime.

I’m contemplating either:

1. Spending about $800-$900 to get a nicer computer (for my purposes at least), equipping it with a strong processor (dual core or quad core 2.4GHZ), good memory (3G RAM), a nice monitor (19-20 in flat screen), Windows Vista, and getting it new through Dell, HP, or another manufacturer.
My concern with this is that I’ve heard not so good things about Vista and may want to continue to utilize XP instead seeing that I don’t care much about the multimedia aspects anyway.

This above option would mean I’d like to keep my computer for about 5 years again.

OR

2. Purchase a decent $300-$400 computer. With XP. Possibly refurbished even off of TigerDirect.com. 1.8 MHZ processor. 1 GB RAM, etc etc…. I could keep my current monitor, which is 17 and fine.
And then purchase a new (better) computer in 2-3 years when Windows 7 is released by Microsoft.

What are your opinions?
